Embracing Your Vision: How to Bring It to Life

"Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry." Habakkuk 2:2-3 NIV

At the beginning of every new year, I have a tradition of doing "vision boards" like many of us around the world. I bring out the old school poster boards, scissors, glue, turn on some jazz music with a glass of wine. I love pasting images of my vision on a board - it never gets old. The funny thing is, I've had the same stack of magazines for the past 10 years. I am amazed that every year, I still find fresh pictures and phrases for each new vision that God has placed in my heart. This reminds me that visions have life in them. It's not the pictures, the words or the affirmations.

Here are 3 things we can do to breathe new life into the visions God has placed in our hearts:

  1. Make the vision plain by writing, reading and speaking it out loud.

There is strength and power in the spoken, written, and visible word; bringing it to life and into the light. Writing it down in your heart is the first step. Then write it on paper. Look at it, speak it out loud and share out loud. The vision God placed in you is not meant to be silenced.

  2. Move the vision forward. The vision is no good without you moving in the direction of the vision. You must ‘run’ with the vision that God has placed in you. This does not mean you need to go fast. Another meaning for ‘run’ is to endure or persevere.  As long as you keep moving, it is good enough. Don't give up!

  3. Meet the vision at its appointed time. The vision will not come to pass any sooner (or later) than it is meant to. Some visions take years to come to pass. Do not be discouraged. We must be patient with the process and trust God  that the vision will come to pass at the right time. BUT we must be ready!

Reflection: What is the vision God has placed in your heart? Write it down, Read it often, Speak it and Share it, but most importantly, Run with it!
